The best sites in the North Atlantic Region
Sadly, of the 7 states in the North Atlantic region, I have only been to park sites in New York City, so take my top 3 recommendations with a grain of salt! I hope to make it back to NYC this summer to do a few more sites, but I have no plans to visit any other state up North anytime soon. These states are very driveable for me, so I am putting them on the back-burner while I have the ability to fly to other places.
No. 3: Federal Hall N MEM
There isn’t a ton to do at Federal Hall, but I loved the building itself. The steps out front are very picturesque and there’s plenty of space to sit and hang out for a little bit if you have the time. I did stay for a ranger talk, which basically just took you around to the important parts of the lobby, but it was still really neat!
No. 2: Governor’s Island NM
I LOVED Governor’s Island and I rave about it in one of my blog posts. I am positive it had to do with the circumstances around my visit, because I’m not sure I would have loved it as much if my first visit went any other way. Regarding fall foliage, it was peak weekend so the trees were absolutely amazing. It was the first year (2021) the NPS kept Governor’s Island open all year, so hardly anybody was there because normally it would have been closed at this point. I went on a ranger talk through the historic part and learned so much. They hold festivals in the summer and I’d love to go back for one.
No. 1: Statue of Liberty NM
I also rave about the Statue of Liberty in a separate blog post. I was hesitant to go simply because it’s so touristy, but then that’s also what made me want to go. When you think of NYC you think of the Statue of Liberty, so I felt like it was a must-do. I ended up having the best day at both Ellis Island at the Statue of Liberty. I learned so much, but it was a lot to take in. I’d love to go back!
